About Us

Stamford Artisans Guild is a not for profit company managed by local artists, designers and makers from Stamford, Lincolnshire & surrounding areas. The Guild management committee and everyone involved with the Guild volunteers their time to help promote local crafts and hand-made craft events.

Stamford Artisans Guild

Love What’s Local!

The Guild started as an informal group in 2009 with the aim to create a local crafts community and provide a forum for creative folks in the area to meet regularly.  The Guild organised its first Hand-made Christmas Market in December 2009 at the Stamford Arts Centre. The encouraging response to the event gave the group the impetus to host regular handmade craft markets in Stamford in 2010 to showcase the wonderful creative talent of local artisans. We are very grateful to the Stamford Arts Centre and also South Kesteven District Council who gave us the opportunity to host the 2010 events, at the same time as the High Street Arts and Crafts Markets in May, July and September.

In 2011 these exclusively hand-made craft events have expanded to locations outside Stamford too! Stamford Artisans Guild is hosting several hand-made craft fairs in Stamford, Oakham, Peterborough and Wansford in 2011 and also supporting small monthly craft events at Fineshade Woods. 2012 Dates are being booked and we will update as soon as finalised.

At our Craft Markets visitors have the opportunity to meet the Artisans and talk to them about their work. Visitors can expect to find a range of hand-made items including Cards & Decorations, Stuffed toys,  Textile Crafts,  Local Photography, Wood Turned items, Hand bags,  Knitwear,  Stationary, Lapidary, Wire Sculptures, Jewellery, Pottery and a wide variety of gift ideas. Many artisans accept bespoke orders and can create something unique to personal specifications.

The Stamford Artisans Guild encourages members, fair visitors and supporters alike to “LOVE WHAT’S LOCAL!”

Buy local, Buy handmade and help support our local hand-made community and small businesses.

From being an informal membership club the Guild has now taken a step up and has been incorporated as a Limited By Guarantee Company, Registered in England & Wales.  Stamford Artisans Guild Limited continues to be a not-for-profit company run by its members through an elected management committee and is here to support our Local Craft Community. All participation is on a voluntary basis and all funds raised by the Stamford Artisans Guild Ltd. via membership fees and stall fees for craft fairs are used for organising & promoting Hand-made Fairs and Markets in Stamford and surrounding areas. We encourage our members to get involved, put forth their ideas and be part of this vibrant and fun group!

Any support the local community can give us will be much appreciated. And by support we don’t mean we are asking people for cash donations! Spread the word about our events to your friends and colleagues, come and visit our events and buy locally made items. Artisans work very hard to make their unique creations both decorative and functional and the best support you can give us is by coming to our events and buying what we make if you like the goods on display. And if you would like to add a link to our website on your webpage or put some of our event leaflets in your shop, restaurant, club or office we will be very grateful.

    Hi,
I’m interested in joining the guild. I make fabric bags (handbags, totes, ipad/tab covers, kindle covers, phone covers plus lots of other items). I live in Peterborough and have been sewing for 40 years plus. I pride myself on my work and currently sell at Van Hague Craft Fair every month.
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Kind regards
    Sue

Hi there, I’m interested in becoming a member. I make accessories for tablet computers (ipads, tablets etc) including bean bag stands, fabric cases and shoulder bags. The bags are all made from upcycled jackets and coats. Please could you send me some information? Thanks, Elli

  • Hi there,
I’m just enquiring about how to go about joining the guild and becoming part of the group. I am very new to the world of crafting, but would like to put myself ‘out there’ a bit more. I create personalised property illustrations, Childrens name plates and make some ceramic pieces.
If you could let me know if this would be possible that would be great, I live in Sawtry by the way, is this too far afield?

    Thanks

    Christine

  • Hello Lesley & Martin,
